David and Goliath

RELATED SCRIPTURE
  • 1 Samuel 17:1-58
    • The Philistine and Israelite armies faced each other from opposite hills, with a valley between them. Every morning and every evening, a Philistine giant named Goliath taunted the Israelites from the valley. He challenged the Israelites, stating that if any one man could slay him, the Philistines would become slaves to the Israelites. If Goliath killed the Israelite, the Israelites would be slaves to the Philistines. For forty days, none of the Israelites had the courage to face Goliath. A boy named David was delivering a message to Saul, King of the Israelites, when he heard Goliath taunting his people. David volunteered to fight Goliath, knowing that he had the power of the Lord of Heaven's armies, while Goliath was merely a man with a sword and shield. Armed with only a sling and stones, David defeated Goliath; and the Israelites triumphed over the Philistines.
